William Curtis (1746-1799 ) published his greatest work , Flora Londinensis, over a 23 year period. This important folio describes and illustrates all the wild flowering species growing within a ten mile radius of the center of London. The resulting 6 volumes were one of the first works on the flora of Britain accessable to the general reader which could assist in the identification of a species. Only 300 copies were produced due to financial problems. In 1817 William J. Hooker published an expanded edition of Flora Londinensis which these prints are from. The prints are on fine wove paper and measure aproximately 11.50 x 19. With a dispaly mat these prints measure 23 X 16.25. This hand colored engraving is in good condition.
