Louis Agassiz Fuertes ( 1874 – 1927 ) was an American ornithologist, illustrator and artist. After graduating from Cornell University he traveled across most of the United States and all over the world in his ornithological pursuits. He is considered one of the most prolific American bird artists
and has influenced well known wild life artists such as Roger Tory Peterson and Jorg Kuhn. While on a collecting expedition in Mexico with Frank Chapman, then curator of the American Museum of Natural History, Furtes discoverd a species of oriole. Chapman named it Icterus Fuertesi or Fuerte’s Oriole in honor of Fuertes. This print is of a male and female Northern Flicker and a male and female Red-Bellied Woodpecker. It is in good condition with a small tear in the right margin.
