Lincoln and His Family, Philadelphia 1866 is a mezzotint engraving from the painting by Samual B. Waugh and engraved by prestigious engraver William Sartain. This family portrait was issued the year after Lincoln was assassinated. Lincoln is shown sitting at a table in the White House with his arm around his son Tad, his son Robert is in the center and seated to his left is Lincoln’s wife Mary Todd. A portrait of the third son, who died in 1862, is seen hanging on the wall behind. Behind the President on his right is a bust of the Father of the Nation George Washington, the newly completed Capital dome can be seen through the window and 0n the table between Lincoln and Mary Todd is a Bible. This significant historical engraving of the Presidential family is professionally hand colored and in good condition. The outside white border surrounds the whole image with edges that show some wear but will not show when framed. Published by Badley & Co. 1866.
