Le Vacher  ( The Herdsman ) by Armand Coussens shows the herdsman with a cow in the foreground and another cow that we can barely see standing behind the first cow. The cow looks to be ready for milking. A soft ground etching signed and edition numbered  8/100 by the artist in pencil in very good condition.

French artist Armand Coussens  ( 1881-1935 ) was  a painter, engraver, illustrator and was particularly renowned for his color etchings. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Nimes after which he moved to Paris where he exhibited in the major salons of the day such as the Societe des Artistes Francais. . Coussens was a great promoter of color etchings  which were still regarded as inferior to black-and-white despite the achievements of artists such as Raffaëlli in the previous generation. He died in Nîmes in 1935. His works are in collections all over the world especially his soft ground color etchings.
