Hatikvah ( Hope ) The Israeli National Anthem is a hand pulled limited edition lithograph from the “Aliyah” series. This series was created for the 20th anniversary of the founding of Israel. In 1897 the national hymn was adopted from a poem written in 1878 by a Polish Zionist, Naftali Herz. The musical score above the figure in Dali’s print contains the first musical measure of the melody. The complete text is as follows..
As long as in the heart, inwardly,
the Jewish soul murmurs
and toward the East, forward,
an eye looks to Zion,
our hope will not be lost —
the hope of two thousand years,
to be a free nation in our Land,
in the Land of Zion and Jerusalem.
This print was published by Shorewood Press, New York. Hand signed in pencil by the artist and numbered. Ed. 232/250 and is in very good condition.
