A realistic portrait of two German Shepard’s heads side by side. This original etching is hand signed by the artist and published by Sidney Lucas. It is in good condition with a faint stain along the left side border and a small professionally repaired 1/2 inch tear in the middle of the top border. None of this will show after framing. The image is in great condition.
Leon Danchin, born in Lille, France in 1887 began his career as an artist at the age of sixteen when he was accepted by the Salon des Artists in Paris. He eventually became known as one of the finest French animal artists specializing in birds, dogs and horses and is highly valued to this day. In his lifetime he produced over one hundred etchings and lithographs focusing mostly on the sporting life of animals in the field but not exclusively. He was also an accomplished painter and sculptor. He died at the beginning of World War II in Berques where he is buried.
