Marcel Vertes (1895 – 1961) although born in Hungary, lived in Paris for most of his artistic life. He was a painter, print maker, illustrater, designer, and scenic artist. He was known for capturing the spirit of 1920’s Paris with his portrayals of the Paris street scenes, women, circus and cabaret acts.His works are in the Museum of Modern Art, the Musee des Artes Moderne and the Luxembourg Museum of Art, Paris. He won two oscars for consulting and for designing the award winning film Moulin Rouge, 1954.
