Marc Chagall (( 1887 -1985 ) Belorussion-born French painter, printmaker and designer. Chagall worked in many mediums including book illustration, stained glass windows, ceramics, tapestries, painting and fine art prints. Although most people view him as the world’s most prominent Jewish artist of the twentieth century Chagall himself felt he was representing not the dream of one people but of all humanity. He was a pioneer of modernism bringing together Cubism, Symbolism and Fauvism which led into Surrealism. His unique vision of the world and his total understanding of the use of color has made Chagall one of the world’s great artist along side Picasso and Matisse.
