Daniel G. Elliot (1835-1915 ) was a wealthy New Yorker and artist whose passion in life was ornothology. He became very involved with the American Museum of Natural History and devoted much of his time helping to build their ornothological department with many unique specimens. He was also a Fellow of the Zoological Society of London. This print is from his ” Monograph of the Tetraoninde ” ( The Family of Grouse). It was published by the author and lithographed and colored by Bowen & Co. ,Philadelphia. It is an exquiste and striking image richly handcolored depicting two male grouse . It is in good condition with a very small paper loss in three of the corners.
