Ricinus Africanus Maximus N.867 hand colored mezzotint is from Johan Wilhelm Weinmann’s ( 1683-1741 ) Phytanthoza Iconographia, a comprehensive scientific eight volume set with 1,026 plates and are amongst the earliest examples of color printing from a single plate. These extremely beautiful images include plants, trees, fruits, herbs and vegetables. Weinmann was a highly successful pharmacist and botanist.
